Short of putting your dog in front of an Xray machine, having an artist, with long experience in both purebred dogs and in depicting animal gait and structure, create a unique Skeletal Image, is the best way I know of being able to see your dog's internal conformation.

These drawings can show you the skeletal anatomy of your purebred dog. When you email or mail a photograph of your dog, posing, gaiting or standing naturally, I will render an accurate illustration of the dog’s skeletal anatomy. I will email back a picture like what you see here, at 150ppi, printable to 8.5” by 11” (depending on the proportions of the photograph). Each Skeletal Image is hand drawn over the photograph of your dog, then scanned and layered with the original picture to create a unique image.

These Skeletal Images show the underlying structure of a purebred dog (or any animal) and are of great value to breeders or owners wanting to learn more about their dogs’ conformation and anatomy. They show the lay of the shoulder and upper arm, configuration of the spine, set of the pelvis and rear angulation.

Skeletal Images can reveal the underlying structure of dogs from all the Groups: Working, Herding, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Terrier, Hound and even Toy. Especially interesting are sequential images showing the gait, and how the lengths and angles of the bones result in a dog’s particular style of movement.

The best results are from photographs showing the dog from the side. Front and rear views are useful too, but three quarter views tend not to show the structure as well.

Photographs can be colour, or black and white. Files should be jpgs, not tiff or bmp (bitmaps), which are very large and slow to download. The best results are from files at resolutions of 150 to 300ppi. Mailed photographs will be returned if accompanied by a stamped, self addressed envelope.

All Skeletal Images are kept strictly confidential, and will not be used for any other purpose without your written permission.

Price for one image: US $75.00, payable by check or money order.

Please note that the more coat a dog carries, the greater the margin for error. The most problematic are adult toys and small spaniels with very heavy coats that obscure the legs, and dogs such as Komomdor, Puli and OES in full adult coat.
